ALL CLASSES ARE 9:00AM - 5:00PM unless noted otherwise. Space is limited. Pre-registration is required for all classes. Classes may be cancelled at close of registration due to low enrollment. ALL CLASSES REQUIRE A 50% DEPOSIT. Refunds will be honored in full up to registration deadline, after registration deadline refunds reduce to 50%. Participants under 18 must have signed guardian liability release form and/or permission slip. Lunch is on your own- bring or buy a lunch during the break. Registration deadline:July 11
Learn to make fine beaded jewelry from a local artist. Leave with a completed hand-made matching set of necklace, earrings, and bracelet. All materials and tools are provided.

Learn about migratory and resident waterfowl species in the Atlantic flyway from director of newly formed chapter of Delta Waterfowl on Delmarva. All ages are welcome.

Learn the basics of stained glass artistry from local artist and business owner. Complete a Butterfly project. All materials are provided.

Registration deadline:August 29
Learn how to design, construct and place rain gardens to create habitat and reduce runoff on your property. Construct a barrel to collect rain water safely for use on lawns and gardens. All materials are provided.

Saturday, October 11: JP Hand- Dove Decoy
Registration deadline:October 3
Use traditional hand tools to create a dove decoy mounted on a stick or wire. Stylized paint for easy touch-ups, antique finish may be applied if desired. Finished piece is a working decoy ready for use. See work on exhibit in LaMay Gallery June 13- November 30, 2008. Chesapeake Wildfowl Expo occurs simultaneously.

Saturday, October 18 (Noon-4pm): Project FeederWatch
Registration deadline:October 10
Attend this workshop and get all the tools you need to be a citizen scientist in your own backyard. Learn how to attract, feed and identify backyard birds. Workshop includes a membership to Project FeederWatch. (Operated by the Cornell Lab of Ornithology and Bird Studies Canada).

Saturday, October 25 (9:30 a.m. - 2 p.m.): Kathy Boyle- Copper Metal Flowers
Registration deadline:October 17
Use copper, clay, solder, embossing tools and acrylic paint to create wildflowers such as violet, daisy, black-eyed Susan, lady slipper and jack-in-the-pulpit. Flowers attached to wire stems with copper petals and textured leaves. Use as jewelry, decoration or techniques for all your crafts. Solder iron recommended.

Saturday-Sunday, November 1-2: Steve Hearn- Whimbrel Decoy
Registration deadline:October 24
Carve and paint a whimbrel shorebird decoy mounted on a stick. Use hand tools, oil paints and burning techniques. Choose between standing and feeding styles. Steve is the apprentice of master carver Bobby Swain of Chincoteague, VA. Novice to Intermediate Carving.

Ongoing (10 - 11 a.m.): Nature tales for tots
This program is designed for children of the preschool to first-grade age. Early learners hear lively stories pertaining to the environment. Following the reading, a craft activity is conducted. FREE every first and third Wednesday. Nature Tales flyer

July 14-18 (9 a.m. - 3 p.m.) Nature Inspired Art Camp
Registration deadline: July 3
Children ages 8 -12 enjoy a week filled with art and environmental educational activities. Artists hold classes each day and between classes children participate in educational activities to learn about the environment and backyard habitats. Project schedule is as follows:

Regional Carver: Eddie Wozny
~ Welcome Gallery ~
Reception: January 18, 5-7pm.
Wildfowl carver Eddie Wozny of Cambridge, Maryland will be featured in this season's Regional Carving exhibit. Eddie's work includes a vast array of waterfowl, shorebirds, upland game fowl, birds of prey, and songbirds. He creates flyers and miniatures in addition to life-sized interpretations.

Decoys and Gunning traditions of the New Jersey shore

** Reception: June 13, 5-7pm**
This exhibit showcases a wide range of decoy carvings from the state of New Jersey, where the wild celery and eel grass growing in the brackish coastal waters attract black ducks, bluebills, brant, and geese. Early New Jersey carvers developed the dugout style of decoy, designed for use in the narrow-hulled sneakboxes used by coastal gunners. The exhibit will feature this and other techniques as well as a sampling of the state's shorebird forms.

This season's Regional Carver Exhibit showcases the work of three New Jersey bird carvers to complement the LaMay Gallery's New Jersey Decoy exhibit.

Reflections on Water: Paintings, Photographs, and Sculpture

**Reception: December 5, 5-7pm**
This exhibition highlights the Eastern Shore's wetland habitats, maritime scenery, and nautical activities. The exhibit offers a study of both the natural and cultural landscapes associated with the peninsula's peripheral and interior bodies of water. The selection showcases works in a variety of media by artists from the Delmarva Peninsula.

Student Art Exhibit- "Birds of the World"

Reception: February 19, 6-7:30pm
Students from public, private, and home schools are invited to participate in our annual unjuried exhibit. Student art will be on display in the Welcome gallery. Admission is free. Flat and 3D mediums are welcome. All flat art must be matted with 1" black border and express the topic of "Birds of the World". This exhibit is in conjunction with Robert Kerr's Wildfowl of the World in Miniature exhibit on display in the LaMay Gallery February 20-May 10. Participants exhibiting flat waterfowl art are encouraged to enter their piece into the 2009 Junior Duck Stamp contest.

TASTE OF SALISBURY
July 27, 2008 (12 to 3pm)
The Ward Museum partners with the Locally Owned Restaurant Association (LORA) for a community mixer with free food samples from participating restaurants. Museum programs, volunteerism, and membership opportunities are showcased. There is a "Pick Your Prize" Raffle of items donated by locally owned businesses. This event is free and open to the public.

THE CHESAPEAKE WILDFOWL EXPO
October 10-11, 2008 -- FREE ADMISSION ALL WEEKEND!
The Chesapeake Wildfowl Expo is a two-day event of festivities. Friday and Saturday the parking lot becomes a Market Place for buying, selling and trading of antique and contemporary waterfowling items. Friday evening enjoy an Eastern Shore Pig Roast. Saturday the Chesapeake Challenge and 'Old' Decoy Competitions are held along with a chicken barbeque, waterfowling cooking and carving demos and children programs. Admission to the museum and event is free. Tickets are available for the pig roast and the chicken bbq will be for sale on Saturday starting at 11 a.m. Full details.

FAMILY HOLIDAY CRAFTS
December 6, 2008 (Noon-4pm)
Families and children learn how to make hand-make personalized gifts such as jewelry, ornaments, birdfeeders and other crafts. Prices range from $1 to $5 per item for walk-in projects. Refreshments, snacks and other items will be sold. All participants enjoy FREE admission to the museum. Children must be accompanied by an adult. Adults learn to carve a Santa figurine using carving knives and wood (see class description above). This event is fun for the whole family.

WARD WORLD WILDFOWL CARVING COMPETITION
April 24-26, 2009 at the Roland E. Powell Convention Center Ocean City
See the World's best wildfowl art! Over 150 varieties of bird carvings from highly decorative works of art to functional hunting decoys by 800 of the world's best carvers can be viewed at the premiere, most prestigious competition in the world. Attend seminars given by master carvers. Buy carvings at the Carver's Art Shop. Shop at over 120 exhibitors' booths selling fine art work, home decorating items, folk art, jewelry, sporting goods, and carving and art supplies. Bid on carvings at the Saturday afternoon auction.
The event features Educational Conference seminars and workshops on various aspects of carving for all skills levels and on related topics. The Kids' Corner offers children many projects, including soap carving, painting a decoy, and an opportunity to complete a carving project under the instruction of a world champion. Full details

MAYDAY: FOR THE ENVIRONMENT
May 2009
The types of programs that the children will enjoy at the event include activities such as learning about the health of our watershed, wetland wonders, making environmental message banners, the rewards of recycling, interactive puppet shows, various art activities, learning about butterflies in our butterfly garden and making a birdfeeder. It is programs like these where students learn to become stewards of our cultural and natural heritage and carry on the traditions of the Bay.
